FORT MYERS — Naples-based EHC started construction on widening the road that leads to Southwest Florida International Airport to six lanes.
The Fort Myers airport recently reported nearly 1.3 million passengers passed through its gates in March, a record number of people in the airport's 33-year history. Wright Construction awarded EHC the project for the Lee County Port Authority.
“The Southwest Florida International Airport is vital to this region's tourism industry,” says EHC Vice President Tony Hamilton, in a statement. “We are pleased to be a part of Wright Construction's team and on a project that supports the continued growth of the airport and overall market.”
The project consists of widening Terminal Access Road to six lanes from the Interstate 75 connector to Air Cargo Lane. It will include curbs, signs, lights, landscaping, permitting and Federal Aviation Administration approvals.
EHC is providing earthwork, grading and erosion control for the project. Financial terms of the airport project were not disclosed.
