CAPE CORAL — Cape Coral Hospital earned the Governor's Sterling Award, the first community hospital in 23 years to receive the award that recognizes excellence in management and operations.
Cape Coral Hospital is part of Lee Memorial Health System, the nation's fourth-largest public health system. Florida Sterling Council examiners determine the winners after applicants submit a 50-page application. An independent review includes site visits and interviews with employees.
“It is an incredible honor to announce that Cape Coral Hospital has received the Governor's Sterling Award for 2015 and has been identified among the best of Florida's organizations and institutions,” says Scott Kashman, chief administrative officer of Cape Coral Hospital, in a statement.
“This award is the highest recognition an organization in Florida can receive for performance excellence,” says Florida Gov. Rick Scott, in a statement.
Besides Cape Coral Hospital, Lee Memorial operates three other acute-care hospitals and two specialty hospitals in Lee County. The Fort Myers-based system employs 11,000 people.
