FORT MYERS — Architects and builders are preparing to bid for a $140 million health campus in south Lee County.

Lee Memorial Health System is advertising for architectural and construction management services for the project near the Coconut Point mall, according to a statement posted on the web site of the Estero Council of Community Leaders. Estero is the fast-growing in south Lee County municipality that is home to the new Hertz global corporate headquarters.

“We are in the process of finalizing the programmatic elements and will soon be moving into the planning and design phase,” says Suzanne Bradach, Lee Memorial Health System director of special projects, in the statement. “Evaluating each firm's strengths and capabilities will enable us to assemble the best qualified team to transform our vision for this project into reality.”

The state previously denied Lee Memorial's request for hospital beds in that area, so the system is creating a medical center that will function similarly but without beds.

“This project embraces the patient experience as part of an integrated system of health care delivery that is currently not found in our community,” says Kevin Newingham, chief strategy officer of Lee Memorial, in the statement. “The future of health care delivery goes above and beyond the fragmented system currently in practice. Coordinated, patient-centered care that is focused on prevention, wellness and chronic disease management will serve as the foundation for its design.”
