BONITA SPRINGS — Bonita Springs Utilities, which provides water to the fast-growing area of south Lee County, appointed John Jenkins executive director, starting June 22.
Jenkins, an attorney who has provided legal counsel to Bonita Spring Utilities for more than three decades, will replace Fred Partin, who is retiring. Partin has served as the utility's executive director since 1981.
Bonita Springs Utilities is a nonprofit water and wastewater utility founded by citizens in 1971. Today, the member-owned utility serves more than 40,000 homes and businesses in a 60-square-mile area.
A law-school graduate of Florida State University, Jenkins began his career as an associate with a Miami-based law firm, and was later a partner in the firms of Rose, Sundstrom & Bentley and Nabors, Giblin & Nickerson in Tallahassee. Jenkins has spent 30 years advising utilities on issues ranging from operations to financing, capital projects and real estate.
“The board of directors launched a methodical, nationwide search in early February and considered many well-qualified candidates,” says Jim Strecansky, the board president, in a statement. “John's depth of experience and his extensive knowledge of Florida utility systems and regulations made him the clear choice. His work and familiarity with BSU, the city of Bonita Springs and our regulators is a bonus and will ease the transition.”
