FORT MYERS — U.S. District Court Judge John Steele sentenced Shawn Fuentes to five years in prison for mail fraud and tax evasion.

As the former chief financial officer of Naples Concrete and Masonry, Fuentes wrote fraudulent business checks to pay for personal expenses. Steele ordered Fuentes to repay Naples Concrete nearly $2 million and the Internal Revenue Service $624,728. In addition, Steele ordered her to pay a judgment of $106,979, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney.

Fuentes pleaded guilty in July to writing fraudulent checks from the company to American Express and Bank of America to pay off her credit card debt. The fraudulent checks appeared to be for legitimate business purposes in the company's accounting system.
