State lawmakers could have an $845.7 million surplus when putting together the 2014-2015 budget, according to the News Service of Florida.
The News Service cites a draft document that analyzes the states finances over the next three years, looking at both tax revenues and likely expenses. The estimated $845.7 million surplus, the News Service says, could be used during the 2014-15 fiscal year to increase spending or cut taxes. It could also be included in the budget for the following year.
The surplus, though, isn't without complications. One qualification is $449 million of the extra money is a one-time surplus. Plus, not surprisingly, there will be multiple interests looking to grab some of the funds, the News Service reports. Florida Gov. Rick Scott's pledge to cut taxes next year by $500 million will also be part of the mix.
The Legislative Budget Commission is scheduled to hear a presentation about the surplus Sept. 12. The commission is a joint panel of House and Senate members.
