TAMPA — Today PricewaterhouseCoopers opened its new office space, a 250,000-square-foot, 10-story office building in the MetWest International development of Tampa's Westshore district.

The professional services company will relocate more than 2,000 employees to the new building, located at 4040 Boy Scout Blvd. Employees who work at PwC's Assurance and Tax Service Delivery Centers will remain at its office on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

PwC will be the only tenant in the building, for which it has a long-term lease with MetLife. PwC is anchoring the mixed-use development, which planned to have nearly 1 million square feet of Class A office space, a 74,200-square-foot retail center, and hundreds of hotel rooms and residential units.

In a release, the company says it built the space to accommodate its future growth plans and its workers' needs. Mike Quackenbush, managing partner for PwC's Tampa office, says in the release that the space was designed with a more open floor plan to enhance collaboration and meet the needs of today's mobile worker. This includes touch-down desks throughout the buildings and media-sharing technologies.

“As we built out the space, we placed a premium on efficiency, a concern for the environment, personal flexibility and teaming,” Quackenbush says in the release. “In fact, more than 70% of our new space was designed specifically for collaboration.”

The firm is seeking LEED Silver certification for the building's green features.

PwC has firms in 158 countries with more than 180,000 people. It is one of Tampa Bay's largest employers.
