The need for speed

Rhea Law took to the sky on July 4th, but she wasn't in a plane.

Law, one of Tampa's powerhouse business lawyers, strapped on a jet pack to fly 30 feet in the air above St. Pete Beach.

The 63-year-old Law, chairwoman and CEO of Fowler White Boggs, is a daredevil who has flown in an F-16 at MacDill Air Force Base, parachuted with the Army's Golden Knights and raced cars and motorcycles.

“I just love speed,” she says.

The Fourth of July ride, touted online as something out of an action movie thriller, was a gift from a friend. Her husband, Wayne Williams, cheered her on but he kept his feet on the boat.

Law says she did feel a bit like James Bond, with a jet pack on her back and flying over the water for 30 minutes. It also tired her out.

The JetLev ride at TradeWinds Island Resorts was fun, exciting and wet, Law says. But it's not quite in the same league as flying in the F-16 or jumping out of a plane.

Though Law expects to do it again, she doesn't plan to tire out as easily next time.

The 30-minute ride is $225, unless a friend buys it for you.
