TAMPA — Verizon Wireless appointed Mariano Legaz president of the Florida region, which encompasses 2,500 employees, a Tampa customer call center and more than 80 retail stores.
Legaz, an 18-year Verizon veteran, says the Florida team will continue to focus on providing value for its customers through the quality of its products and service, says a news release.
Legaz served most recently as senior vice president of Verizon's supply chain, where he managed 1,700 employees, 500 contractors and was responsible for procuring more than $20 billion in products and services.
He replaces Pam Tope, who is retiring from Verizon after 26 years.
Legaz is a director for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Quest Forum, the National Minority Supplier Development Council and the advisory board of Rutgers University Center for Supply Chain Management.
The Hispanic Chamber issued a news release Monday to congratulate Legaz on his promotion and Verizon for selecting him as Florida president.
“Mariano is a seasoned executive and a savvy veteran of the critical telecommunications technology field, who truly understands the needs of Florida's diverse consumers,” chamber CEO Javier Palomarez says in a statement.
As head of supply chain diversity, Mariano was instrumental in Verizon's outreach to small- and minority-owned businesses, states the release.
