WellCare names new chief medical officer

TAMPA — WellCare Health Plans named Dr. Steven Goldberg to its senior management team as chief medical officer.

Goldberg will participate in strategic planning and policy direction for WellCare (symbol: WCG; recent price: $56.81) with a “focus on ensuring high-quality, cost-effective care” for the plan's members, says a press release.

In addition, Goldberg will represent WellCare's public position on health care and medical issues with regulators, government customers, providers and trade groups. He will report to CEO Alec Cunningham.
