TAMPA — Logan Circle Partners has launched a growth equities investment business for institutional investors with a five-member team wooed away from one of its large competitors, Goldman Sachs.

The Tampa-based team is led by Chief Investment Officer David Shell, formerly the co-chief investment officer at Goldman Sachs Growth Equities Investment team.

Shell — a 1987 University of South Florida graduate — joined Logan Circle in April after 15 years at Goldman Sachs.

Logan Circle is a unit of New York City-based Fortress Investment Group (symbol, FIG; recent price, $6.66), which managed assets of $56 billion as of March 31.

Shell's new team members are Joseph Hudepohl, Scott Kolar, Warren Fisher and Gregory Frasca — all former members of Goldman Sachs equity team.

The new team adds an institutional equity capability for Fortress Investment. Logan Circle manages about $22 billion across 15 fixed-income strategies.

“The addition of an institutional equities capability marks an important milestone in Logan Circle's build-out of a broader traditional asset management platform,” CEO Jude Driscoll says in a release.

Shell's team is focused on investing and managing concentrated portfolios of publicly traded U.S. equities for institutional clients. Logan Circle also has offices in Philadelphia and Summit, N.J., near New York City.

Fortress manages assets on behalf of more than 1,500 institutional clients and private investors across a range of private equity, credit, liquid hedge funds and traditional asset management strategies.
