BRADENTON — Prominent local executive Mary Ann Turner, onetime chairwoman of the board of Bradenton-based Horizon Bank, has turned to a new career: real estate.
A Bradenton resident for 32 years, Turner recently joined Duncan Real Estate, according to a release. The firm focuses on selling, leasing and buying properties on Anna Maria Island, though it does work in all of Manatee County.
A recipient of the Manatee Community Foundation's Spirit of Manatee Leadership Award, Turner was previously the chief financial officer and partner with Turner Tree and Landscape. She was with the landscaping company for 25 years before selling her ownership stake last summer. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. Turner, in an interview with the Business Observer, says she's looking forward to the change. “I'm learning something completely different every day,” says Turner. “I love it.”
Turner was also on the board of Horizon Bank, a $188 million institution that state regulators shuttered Sept. 10. Little Rock, Ark.-based Bank of the Ozarks, through a loss-share transaction with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., took over Horizon's assets and more than $150 million in deposits. The bank had four offices spread between Manatee and Hillsborough County.
