BOMA announces Building of the Year awards

TAMPA —The Building Owners and Managers Association of Greater Tampa Bay has announced the winners of the 2013 Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) awards for the Tampa Bay area.

The commercial real estate trade group's TOBY awards honor outstanding commercial real estate properties and industry personnel. Winners in each category are eligible to advance to the regional Building Owners and Managers Association's awards competition. The local awards recognized the following winners:

• 500,000 - 1 million square feet: Bank of America Plaza in Tampa, owned by Para-Met Plaza Associates

• 250,000 - 499,999 square feet: Park Tower in Tampa, owned by Sterling American Property Inc.

• 100,000 - 249,999 square feet: Lakeview Center in Tampa, owned by EP East Tampa LLC/Penn Florida Cos.

• Suburban Office Park: Baypoint Commerce Center in St. Petersburg, owned by KP Holdings Florida LLC

• Medical Office Building: Life Hope Medical Offices in Tampa, owned by Health Care REIT

• Industrial Park: Expressway Commerce Center A & B in Tampa, owned by EastGroup Properties LP

• Earth Award: Tampa City Center in Tampa, owned by One Tampa City Center LLC

The TOBY awards also named the following individual awards:

• Public Official of the Year: Mayor Bill Foster of St. Petersburg

• Property Manager of the Year: Sandra Ballestra of Mainstreet Capital Real Estate Services Inc.

• Allied Member of the Year: Michael Wolfe of AFS Janitorial

• Engineer Member of the Year: Kevin Norton of Mainstreet Capital Real Estate Services Inc.

• President's Award: Dawn Forestt of Bay Area DKI

• Chapter Members of the Year: Carol Dunn of Highwoods Properties and Kent Walling of Taylor Mathis

• Lifetime Membership: recognizing sustained years of commitment to the association's brand: Lisa Cox of Highwoods Properties

All applicants took part in an on-site review of their buildings, including inspections of both public and non-public areas. The review process also included interviews with the property management teams and tenants, which evaluated them in a number of categories, such as emergency preparedness, energy management, building security, and community impact.

The Building Owners and Managers Association of Greater Tampa Bay is a trade association representing the commercial real estate industry.
