It's been more than a year since Myra Janco Daniels retired from the Naples Philharmonic, but big rebranding changes are afoot at the cultural mecca she built.
Daniels, a former advertising chief executive who was one of Naples' most successful fundraisers, founded the Philharmonic in 1982 and built it into a $127 million complex of an orchestra, performing arts hall and art museum.
The Phil, as it's affectionately called, hosts the top performing artists and Broadway shows, especially during the busy spring season. It now enters its 25th season.
Now under the direction of Kathleen Van Bergen, the Phil has been renamed Artis — Naples. The name was chosen after 10 months of research with the help of New York-based firm Berliner Benson.
The organization says the new name better reflects the wide variety of artistic presentations at the center. Artis creates and presents more than 300 events a year in various arts, including performance and visual. Of those, fewer than half are musical concerts.
