TALLAHASSEE — Florida Gov. Rick Scott tossed a salvo at California in the effort to bring more jobs and companies to Florida.

Scott, in a letter to California businesses, says he is pursuing a “One Way” ticket campaign, to “let businesses across the country know that they are welcome — and will succeed — in Florida.” The letter was sent April 26, according to a release from Scott's office.

Writes Scott: “It is working in Florida and it is clear that California's formula of more taxing and more spending isn't working. California's general sales tax is the highest in the nation; their gasoline taxes are the highest in the nation; their personal income tax is the highest in the nation; and their corporate income tax is 60% higher than Florida's.  Unlike Florida, it is clear California does not have a climate for businesses to succeed.”

Scott sent a similar letter to businesses in Illinois last week and he also sent out letters like it in 2012, including one to New York companies, the News Service of Florida reports. Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn calls the pitch from Scott, along with like proposals from Texas, Wisconsin, Indiana and New Jersey, “showboating,” the News Service reports.
