ST. PETERSBURG — After an unsuccessful bid in 2012 to replace U.S. Rep. C.W. “Bill” Young, R-St. Petersburg, attorney Jessica Ehrlich says she will challenge Young again for the U.S. House District 13 seat in 2014.

Young received nearly 58% of the vote in 2012 to win his 22nd term in Congress, where he is the chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense. He is also a member of subcommittees for military construction and veterans affairs appropriations.

“After 43 years in Washington, Bill Young has lost touch with Pinellas County,” Ehrlich says in a news release Thursday announcing her candidacy. “Instead of looking for solutions to address wasteful spending, investing in job creation and education, and protecting Medicare and Social Security benefits, he votes repeatedly for a budget that does the exact opposite.”

Ehrlich, a 39-year-old Democrat and native of St. Petersburg, served as an aide to U.S. Rep. E. Clay Shaw, R-Fort Lauderdale and spent two years working as counsel for U.S. Rep. John Lynch, D-Mass. She also worked as an analyst for Bloomberg in the past, and currently serves on the advisory board of Ruth's List Florida.
