Marine supply company purchased

LARGO — After more than 40 years in business, the founders of Glenn-Mar Marine Supply have sold the marine supply business. Phil Secord, a long-time Pinellas resident who owns yacht maintenance and sales company SCI Marine Inc., purchased the firm March 15, according to a release. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 1971 by Glenn and Marjorie Rabbass, Glenn-Mar marine supplies and parts to marinas, boat yards, marine-related service companies and retail customers. At its peak, Glenn-Mar had 28 employees and sales of $5.7 million, the release says.

Secord plans to expand products and hire more employees. Glenn-Mar has 13 employees, six of whom have worked for the company more than 30 years. Meanwhile, Secord's son, Nicholas Secord, will take over as general manager of SCI Marine.

The company will continue to distribute products our of its 26,000-square-foot Largo warehouse.

“Glenn-Mar set the standard for marine distribution on the west coast 42 years ago,” Secord says in the release. “I want to carry on that tradition — service, product availability and convenience.”
