TAMPA - Burger 21, a Tampa-based quick-casual eatery from the owners of The Melting Pot Restaurants Inc., are eyeing Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham, N.C. for expansion.

In a release, the company says it believes the two metro areas could potentially support 12 to 15 locations of the gourmet burger restaurant. Since February, Burger 21 has signed four agreements to develop six franchised restaurants in Atlanta, Orlando and Voorhees, N.J. The company was founded in 2010 and now has 10 total franchised and company-owned units, including four in Tampa Bay.

"Burger 21 is growing rapidly and we recognize a tremendous opportunity to expand the brand in North Carolina, including Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham, which are among America's fastest-growing cities," said Mark Johnston, Burger 21 president.

For its North Carolina expansion, Burger 21 is looking for franchisees who have restaurant experience, a minimum net worth of $500,000 and liquid assets of at least $200,000 per unit. The total cost of a restaurant is between about $500,000 and $750,000, and the initial franchise fee is $40,000. A live webinar will be held Nov. 1 to address the expansion strategy.
