The CEO of Tampa Bay & Company, the economic development and promotional firm for Hillsborough County, has stepped down from his position after less than a year in the job.

However, Kelly Miller's approximately 10 months in the leadership role were eventful. Tampa hosted the Republican National Convention in August, drawing an estimated 50,000 visitors, including delegates and media, and stimulating up to $200 million in economic impact to the Tampa Bay region, according to the event's host committee.

Miller resigned as president and CEO for personal reasons, he says in a release. “I'm at a time in my life when I had to make some very tough personal decisions for the well-being of both myself and my family, which ultimately led to my decision to step down,” he says.

“We will immediately begin a national search for a new president/CEO to lead Tampa Bay & Company,” says Jim Dean, chairman of the organization's board of directors and president of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.

The board named Greg Orchard, currently the chief financial officer, acting president/CEO. Orchard is known in the Bay region as a strong leader and tourism supporter, says Dean. Tampa Bay & Company, a nonprofit organization, promotes economic development through tourism, and represents more than 700 businesses in the region.
