TAMPA — Sykes Enterprises, a customer management outsourcing firm, has acquired Alpine Access, a virtual call center company with 5,000 employees across the U.S. and Canada.
Sykes will pay $150 million in cash for Denver-based Alpine, according to a release. Alpine, founded in 1998, focuses on recruiting, training and managing call center employees. The employees work for Alpine remotely, though a proprietary virtual call center. Alpine's clients are mostly in the communications, health care, retail, government and the financial services sectors.
Alpine's revenues grew at a compound annual rate of approximately 34% from 2008 to 2011, while remaining profitable since 2009, according to the release. Alpine's revenues were $105.7 million for the trailing 12 months that ended June 30.
“This is a very exciting day for the employees, clients, and shareholders of Alpine Access as we look forward to joining forces with an industry leader such as Sykes,” says Alpine CEO Christopher Carrington in the release.
Sykes executives, meanwhile, say the deal will allow the firm to expand its offerings to clients with minimal overlap. Carrington and key members of his management team will likely join Sykes as part of the acquisition, according to the release. The transaction is expected to close sometime around the end of the third quarter.
Tampa-based Sykes is publicly traded (symbol: SYKE; recent price: $15.75).
