The Aug. 14 elections may prove to be a pivotal point for Lee County businesses.

That's because several pro-business commissioners won election to the board of county commissioners. Most notably Fort Myers Beach Mayor Larry Kiker defeated longtime commissioner Ray Judah by a surprisingly wide margin of 64% to 36%.

Together with newly elected commissioner Cecil Pendergrass, look for the Lee County Commission to be more receptive to business interests. These include cutting taxes, reducing burdensome regulations and streamlining government.
