The Certified Public Accountant exam is one of the most rigorous professional tests, as any accountant will testify.

Passing the CPA exam is reason enough for celebration.

But Fort Myers accountant Shane Drake was among 19 candidates who passed with the best scores in the country among the more than 103,000 people who sat for the exam in 2010.

The American Institute of CPAs just recently announced the winners of the 2010 Elijah Watt Sells awards, which recognize the 10 highest cumulative scores on all four sections of the CPA exam in their first attempt. In 2010, several candidates received identical cumulative scores, so the professional organization recognized 19 people, including Drake.

Drake, who currently works for Wiltshire, Whitley, Richardson & English in Fort Myers, was the only Florida accountant who was recognized with the award. He is a graduate of Florida Gulf Coast University with a bachelor's of science in accounting and a master's of science in accounting and taxation.

Drake joined Wiltshire, Whitley in 2010 and was promoted to senior accountant in January. He's worked as an accountant for five years.
