TAMPA — In an effort to ease the pain of obtaining construction permits from the city of Tampa, it will open its reorganized Planning and Development Department this week.
The department merges staff from five previously fragmented offices, including parks and recreation and transportation, to streamline the permitting process for new developments, a release from the mayor's office says. The idea for the reorganization came from plans by Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and a recently disbanded economic task force to promote economic growth in the region.
The new office will harness Accela software, which is used by more than 500 government agencies around the world, according to the software manufacturer's website.
Earlier this week Buckhorn delivered the first open-air State of the City address to highlight the recent developments of Agua Luces at the Tampa Riverwalk and the Center for Advanced Medical Learning & Simulation.
