Bonds issued for new hospital

FORT MYERS — Park Royal Psychiatric Hospital closed on a $23-million bond issuance on Dec. 31, and will use the money to build a 76-bed health-care facility in southern Lee County near the Health Park Medical Center, a release said.

Officials plan to build a 69,500-square foot hospital, with construction beginning in February 2012. Final development approval from Lee County is still pending, but is expected to be received in the next two months.

Park Royal currently provides psychiatric care to adult and geriatric patients through a contract with Lee Memorial Hospital, which opened a Senior Behavioral Care unit in 2009.
