TAMPA -- Even beyond the Republican National Convention and the NCAA's Frozen Four men's hockey championship, events in Tampa could pump millions in delegate spending into the local economy.
Not including those two headline events, Tampa Bay & Co. estimates other scheduled conferences could bring $24.5 million in tourist spending to Tampa businesses. Among the events scheduled for 2012 are:
Moose Annual Convention 2012: Moose International Inc., a worldwide caregiving organization, is set to bring 3,000 delegates to the area, buying 17,500 hotel room nights and spending $2.5 million;
Technology Expo: An event organized for February by the American Trucking Association could bring 3,000 delegates, producing 7,400 hotel room nights and $2.2 million in spending;
Feast of Tabernacles: The Philadelphia Church of God will send 6,600 members of its congregation to Tampa, producing more than 7,000 hotel room nights and creating $1.8 million in spending.
The National Association of Secondary School Principals' Annual Convention; the International Association of Dental Research's AADR/CADR Annual Meeting; the Lions Club International's Leadership Forum 2012; the American Physical Therapy Association's Annual Conference and Exposition; and the Florida Board of Bar Examiners' Winter State Exams round out Tampa Bay & Co.'s 2012 schedule.
