The Collier County Commission voted to reduce transportation impact fees by 32% effective Oct. 8.

Commissioner Donna Fiala cast the only dissenting vote of the board's five members. However, Fiala was not opposed to lowering the fee; instead, she supported a more pronounced decrease of 42%.

An additional 10-percentage point drop may yet take place, says Amy Patterson, the county's impact fee manager. But the commission will first review the results of recent studies done on utility costs before taking any further action, Patterson says.

While the decrease may boost economic activity, the county estimates it will lose roughly $21 million in fees over the next five years with this latest decision.
