Health benefit costs grew 6.3% for Florida businesses this year, up to roughly $9,000 per employee, according to a survey conducted by Mercer.
The survey collected responses from 126 Florida companies about recent changes to their health care costs, as well as their expectations for change in the next year. Notable findings included:
• Respondents said their health care costs would go up another 10.3% in 2011 if they made no changes to their current plans;
• 43% of respondents plan to raise deductibles to help reduce future costs;
• Average monthly employee contributions for employee-only coverage are $114 a month for preferred provider organization (PPO) plans, $112 a month for health maintenance organizations (HMO), and $62 a month for consumer directed health plans (CDHP).
