Lee's Conservation 20/20 makes $36-million purchase


BUYER: Lee County, Fort Myers


SELLER: C-Hack LLC and Keystone Creek LLC


PROPERTY: 11400 Luckett Road Extension, 9601 and 9901 State Road 82 and additional land, Fort Myers


FUTURE PRICE: $36.26 million


PLANS, DESCRIPTION: Lee County commissioners have approved the $36.3-million purchase of 1,213 acres on State Road 82 in eastern Lee County for conservation.


The purchase price on the environmental land equated to $29,890 per acre.


The county agreed to buy the first portion, about 517 acres, on May 1 for $10.83 million, equal to $20,944 per acre. It also agreed to three other options on the property: a $16.15-million for 463 acres, a 9.12-million option on 228 acres and a final $155,000 option on the last five acres.


The purchase is set to be one of the county's most expensive ever for conservation land. The cattle ranch land offers the county access to the Six Miles Cypress Slough Preserve headwaters and additional land for the wildlife corridor running along the power-line easement. The property also has a have large number of cypress trees.


Money for the purchase will come from the property tax funds raised for the Conservation 20/20 program. Since 1997, the program has made 103 land purchases totaling 22,6845 acres.
