A landmark Sarasota restaurant location that has gone through several iterations is getting another bite at success.

The time, the restaurant, in the Burns Court neighborhood just outside downtown Sarasota, will be known as Owen's Fish Camp.

It will be run by the Caragiulo family, five brothers who already own family-named restaurants, one each in west Bradenton and downtown Sarasota.

The last restaurant at the new location was 5 One 6 Burns, with a name based on the establishment's street address. That restaurant closed last year.

But Paul Caragiulo says Owen's will take a different approach than the past owners. The menu will be based on a combination of New England and Deep South fish cuisine and specialties.

“We love this city and we especially love our downtown,” says Caragiulo. “Our desire is to create another great neighborhood spot.”

The name of the new restaurant is based on Owen Burns, a Sarasota pioneer who built the cottage and some other buildings in the neighborhood in the 1920s.

The Caragiulos realize the economy presents an acute challenge and the fact that so many new restaurants fail only makes it more of a risk. It helps that in a now common happening on the Gulf Coast, the Caragiulos were given a break on rent, so the landlord can get a tenant back into the space.

Moreover, Caragiulo says he and his family will rely on their past success at Owen's. The family's landmark downtown Sarasota restaurant, on Palm Avenue, celebrated its 20th anniversary last year.
