The city of Tampa plans to layoff 30 workers and reorganize departments as part of Mayor Pam Iorio's cost-cutting strategy to deal with a $27.5 million budget gap.
Included in the cuts is the director of the stormwater management department. That position is no longer needed, as the department will become a division of the public works department, saving $130,977 a year.
In all, a dozen management and supervisory positions are being eliminated. Along with a previous move to cut the Convention Center director's job and an executive aide's position, the layoffs of management and supervisory positions will save the city more than $3 million in personnel costs.
The utility accounting division from the revenue and finance department will be shifted to the water department, eliminating the division manager and five supervisor jobs. Other cuts include the reclaimed water manager paying more than $101,000 a year; the development services manager, paying $119,933; and the purchasing inventory manager, paid a $94,016 salary.
The clean city division has been reassigned and consolidated into the transportation operations division of the public works department, resulting in the reclassification of the clean city manager to a supervisor position. The community affairs division has been reassigned to the code enforcement and business tax department resulting in the elimination of the community affairs division manager, the associated community affairs executive aide positions, and a supervisor position.
Three other manager positions will be eliminated: purchasing inventory manager, economic and urban development services manager, and the growth management development services constructions operations manager. Employees whose positions are eliminated will be given a 90-day layoff notice.
