Paul Marinelli will have been the last family outsider and chief executive of the family owned Barron Collier Companies, at least for a while.
Marinelli oversaw the Naples-based agricultural and development empire best known for Ave Maria, the new town it developed with Domino's Pizza founder Tom Monaghan in teastern Collier County. The company's chief executive officer died in April 2008.
In a recent announcement, the privately held Barron Collier Cos. says it will not replace Marinelli with a new chief executive officer.
Instead, it has appointed two presidents from the Collier family who will each oversee different parts of the company and report to the board of directors headed by Chairman of the Board Lamar Gable.
Katherine Sproul has been named president of agriculture and eastern lands division as well as the partnership that oversees the Grey Oaks residential development and LaPlaya Golf and Beach Resort.
Blake Gable has been named president of the real estate development and mineral management division, which includes commercial real estate and Ave Maria.
Brad Boaz, who had been appointed interim CEO after Marinelli's death, will continue as chief financial officer and was promoted to executive vice president.
