Manufacturing in Manatee and Sarasota counties isn't dead just yet.

While the recession has forced several companies — from boat builders to tool supply operations — to cut back on employees and production, there are some signs of hope in the local market.

For starters, at a recent meeting of the Sarasota Area Manufacturers Association, several local executives said they hear from clients that more orders for products and parts could be forthcoming by the end of 2009.

And on March 31, Bradenton-based Trinity Manufacturing Corp. completed its relocation and expansion project, which doubled the size of its factory from 9,000 square feet to 18,000 square feet.

Trinity, which has 26 employees, manufacturers cables, wire harnesses and electric panels. Its clients range from aerospace and defense contractors to construction and medical equipment firms.

The Economic Development Council of Manatee County assisted Trinity with finding a new factory site and coordinating the move. The company's new facility is down the street from its old one, in the Saunders Industrial Park.

“Since we began operations in January 2004, we have realized outstanding growth in customers and sales,” Trinity president Jim Fitch says in a statement. “Our new facility supports our plans for continued growth.”
