Colliers International Tampa Bay, Central and Southwest Florida has named a new managing director and market leader to run its sprawling commercial real estate brokerage operation from Tampa to Naples.
Danny Rice succeeds Ryan Kratz, who has led the region for the Colliers International brokerage since January 2013. Kratz was promoted in March 2017 to president of the company’s entire operation throughout Florida.
Rice joins Colliers International from Xceligent Inc., a commercial real estate research firm that tried unsuccessfully to challenge CoStar Group Inc.’s hammerlock on market data. Xceligent filed for bankruptcy last year after losing a lawsuit to CoStar and ultimately liquidated.
Rice, 34, had been with Xceligent since 2014, eventually becoming a vice president and chief revenue officer leading a team of about 100.
His recent hiring marks his second tour with Colliers International. He joined the company in 2006 and spent the next eight years in its research and brokerage divisions.
At Colliers International, he will oversee 65 agents from Fort Myers to Clearwater, working out of the firm’s Orlando office.
“Hopefully it’s a good fit, with my research and brokerage and data background, as well as my familiarity with the market and Colliers itself,” Rice says.
“I realize I have really big shoes to fill, so initially I’m just hoping to get up to speed with the operations and the offices,” he says. “Longer term, I think the way brokerage and technology will intersect is going to become much more important than ever before, so we’re hoping to explore that.”
