The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature is on the hunt again for a new CEO.
Just a little more than a year after hiring Hillary Spencer for the role, the museum announced it “went through leadership changes, and Hillary Spencer is no longer the CEO of the museum,” in a message from the board.
Charles Zajaczkowski, a board member since July and a finance manager for Bovie Medical, will serve as interim CEO until a selection has been made, according to a statement. Spencer stepped into the role in May 2021. Coming from the Children’s Museum of the Upstate in Greenville, South Carolina, Spencer replaced Brynne Anne Besio, the Bishop’s longtime CEO who retired in January 2021.
The downtown Bradenton museum has $3.58 million in annual revenue and $45.14 million in assets, according to its most recent public tax filings. It was formerly known as the South Florida museum and went through a major rebranding in 2019.
The Bishop is the largest natural history museum on Florida's Gulf Coast. In addition to permanent exhibitions, The Bishop features a constantly changing lineup of special exhibitions. It's also home to an all-digital planetarium; the Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat, focused on rehabilitating sick or injured manatees for their return to the wild; and the Mosaic Backyard Universe, an indoor exhibition built especially for young children and their families.
