Skanska, the Swedish construction giant, has signed an additional contract worth $60 million with Lee Health for work on a new healthcare center in Fort Myers.

The company, which is building the 53-acre Leah Health Fort Myers medical campus at Colonial and Challenger boulevards for the local healthcare system, says the full project contract was amended to include interior build-out finishes, and mechanical, electrical and plumping work associated with the west bed tower expansion.

Lee Health previously said in early 2025 that the project, which will replace Lee Memorial Hospital about five miles away, would cost $481 million. The healthcare system did not respond Friday to a question about how the costs have changed.

When complete, the campus will have a five-story hospital totaling about 416,000 square feet of health care and office space. It will also have a 125,000-square-foot medical office building housing an ambulatory surgery center and will serve as the home of the Lee Health Musculoskeletal Institute.

Construction began in June 2024 and is scheduled for completion in May 2028.
