Two new international flights are coming to Tampa International Airport.
Breeze Airways announced Tuesday it will begin offering nonstop flights from Tampa International Airport to Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.
It’s the first time in more than 25 years an airline has offered nonstop service from Tampa to San Jose, Costa Rica —a flight that’s long been a goal for the airport, according to a release from TPA. Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) in Costa Rica’s capital offers numerous connections for both business and leisure travelers, the release says. Costa Rica is Florida’s ninth-largest trade partner, with about 3,000 Costa Rican-born residents living in the Tampa Bay region.
Service to San Jose begins Oct. 3 and will operate on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with flights offered exclusively by Breeze.
Nonstop flights to Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) in the Dominican Republic are set to begin July 2 and operate on Thursdays and Sundays. JetBlue and Frontier airlines also offer flights from TPA along this same route.
According to the release, one-way flights to either location start at $129.
“We’re thrilled that Breeze is adding these routes that give our travelers even more ways to experience the beauty and culture of Latin America and the Caribbean,” TPA CEO Michael Stephens says in the release.
The two new flights double the number of international routes Breeze operates out of TPA, the release says. The airline is due to launch nonstop flights to Nassau in the Bahamas June 11 and will begin offering service to Montego Bay, Jamaica Dec. 19 after a delay caused by Hurricane Melissa in 2025.
In all, the airline has rolled out five international flights since it was certified last fall. Breeze Airways launched out of TPA in 2021 and has seen steady traffic in the Tampa market ever since, the release says.
“With Breeze’s premium product offering and affordable fares, we know our guests in Tampa will love this new and convenient international service,” David Neeleman, founder and CEO of Breeze Airways, says in the release.
