An off-price retailer will open in the Sarasota Pavilion in mid-March. Nordstrom Rack has set its opening date for Thursday, March 19, at the shopping plaza at the corner of Stickney Point Road and US 41.
The store will occupy 27,000 square feet in a spot that used to house Bed, Bath & Beyond. Nordstrom first announced its plans to locate there in 2024. Other tenants at the Sarasota Pavilion include Marshalls, Publix, Bealls, World Market, Sephora and Ross Dress for Less.
Inside Nordstrom Rack, shoppers will find products priced up to 70% off. The store will carry on-trend apparel, accessories, beauty products, home decor and shoes from many brands also sold in Nordstrom stores. The largest source of new customers for Nordstrom is Nordstrom Rack, according to a statement.
Off-price retailers are more resistant to e-commerce disruption than traditional department stores where customers expect to find certain items, according to Charlie Boscarino, CEO of LQ Commercial Real Estate Services and principal and managing director for LQ’s Tampa Bay market.
"It’s the thrill of the hunt for off-price retailers because you have to go in,” Boscarino recently told the Business Observer for an article on the state of retail. "You have to ‘shop the store,’ and you can’t replicate that experience online."
There are 30 Nordstrom Rack stores in Florida. Around the region, others are at UTC, Brandon Plaza, Clearwater, Coconut Point in Estero, Bell Tower Shops in Fort Myers, Lakeside Village in Lakeland, Mercato in Naples and Tampa.
Doors will open at 9 a.m. on March 19 at the Nordstrom Rack at 6567 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. There will be music, light bites and gift card giveaways.
Seattle-based Nordstrom began in 1901 as a shoe store and evolved into a department store. In 1973, Nordstrom Rack was established as a clearance section within a downtown Seattle Nordstrom store; a decade later, the first standalone Nordstrom Rack opened in 1983 in Clackamas, Oregon. Today, there are nearly 400 Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack locations.
In 1971, Nordstrom went public, and in 2025, the business returned to operating as a private company after being acquired by members of the Nordstrom family and Mexican retail investor El Puerto de Liverpool.
