Trulieve, the Tallahassee-based national cannabis retailer, is laying off 58 employees at a call center in Clearwater, according to a March 2 letter sent to the state.

In the federally mandated letter, Trulieve says the cuts are coming to its office at 13773 Icot Blvd. as result of “business restructuring.”

The letter did not provide more details and there was no response to an after-hours email to the contact person listed in the letter, a media specific email address or the person listed as the company’s primary investor and media contact.

Also unclear is if the Clearwater cuts are isolated or part of a bigger adjustment companywide.

According to the letter, which was sent to meet Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requirements, the employees will be let go May 1. Of the 58 employees affected, 49 are phone representatives and the remaining nine are chat representatives.

The letter announcing the cuts comes about a week after Trulieve Cannabis Corp. issued its fourth quarter and end of year earnings report.

According to the Feb. 26 report, revenue was down 3%, to $293 million in the quarter when compared with the same time period last year. It remained about even for the full year at $1.2 billion when compared with the previous year.

The company operates 235 dispensaries in eight states. Of those, 164 are in Florida.

That includes a Fort Myers dispensary that opened Jan. 26 at 17274 San Carlos Blvd.
