A new 60-bed rehab hospital designed to help people recover from illnesses and injuries has opened in Manatee County. Bradenton Rehabilitation Hospital is now accepting patients at 412 53rd Ave. W. in Bradenton.

Spanning three stories, the 63,000-square-foot hospital includes private patient rooms and two therapy gyms. Bradenton Rehabilitation Hospital welcomed its first patient June 29 and held a grand opening celebration July 15.

“Our first and foremost core value is keeping the patient at the forefront,” Bradenton Rehabilitation Hospital CEO Tom Marnejon said at the grand opening.

“We want to be the best. We want to be the best in South Florida. We want to be the best in the state of Florida,” Marnejon said. “We want to be recognized for national outcomes. And going back to our staff and our leadership team, I truly believe that we have the right team to do it.”

Medical rehabilitation physicians, therapists and nurses are among the staff at the facility, collaborating on individual therapy plans to help patients recover from conditions like stroke, brain injury, neurological disorders and complex orthopedic conditions.

The therapy gyms, located on the second and third floors of the hospital, feature equipment like parallel bars to help patients practice standing, balance, weight shifting and walking, and machines such as a hand cycle to improve upper-extremity strength, range of motion, endurance and cardiovascular fitness. There is also an interactive platform called BITS System designed to improve hand-eye coordination, mobility and cognition through visual activities.

More than 140 employees have been hired so far, according to Bradenton Rehabilitation Hospital HR Manager Victoria Colimodio, who says more staff will be onboarded in the months ahead.

Meyer Najem, a construction company headquartered in Indiana with an office in Jacksonville, built the facility. The project received $38 million in construction financing in 2024, including more than $28 million from Amerant Bank and over $9 million from Pace Loan Group. Construction was completed in May, according to Marnejon.

Partners in the development were Nobis, Cross Development and Kennor Holdings. They formed an LLC called Bradenton Rehab Real Estate Investors to purchase the 1.47-acre property where Bradenton Rehabilitation Hospital is located for $1.7 million in 2024, according to Manatee County property records.

Bradenton Rehabilitation Hospital is owned by Nobis, a developer and operator of rehabilitation hospitals based in Allen, Texas.

“Bradenton was a location that we identified as having a need for premier inpatient medical rehabilitation services,” Nobis Rehabilitation Partners Chief Marketing Officer Jill Watson says in an email to the Business Observer, responding to a question about why Nobis selected this area.

Designed to meet the demand, Bradenton Rehabilitation Hospital provides patients with an environment focused on “quality outcomes, state-of-the-art equipment and luxury patient suites to maximize their rehabilitation journey," Watson says.

Also in Nobis' portfolio is Pinellas County Rehabilitation Hospital in Pinellas Park; Nobis acquired the facility — formerly known as Everest Rehabilitation Hospital near St. Petersburg — in February and held a grand opening for the rebranded Pinellas County Rehabilitation Hospital July 14. Nobis manages Florida Rehabilitation Hospital at Tampa as well. Bradenton Rehabilitation Hospital is the 20th facility under Nobis management.
