Taylor Swim, 28, was charged with maintaining a gambling house and possession of slot machines. She was taken into custody at 41 Social Club at 1978 S. Tamiami Trail in Venice, Jan. 28, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. Swim was released the following day after posting $300 bond, county arrest records show.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office intelligence unit, tactical unit, special investigations section and patrol bureau were involved in the case, which was made in cooperation with the  Florida Gaming Control Commission (FGCC).

When officials executed a search warrant at 41 Social Club, they seized 66 slot machines, cash and an April 2025 cease-and-desist letter from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

“We will continue our partnership with FGCC focusing on the same goal of shutting down these illegal gambling businesses in our community,” Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt Hoffman says in a statement. “To our citizens, we hear you, and we will continue to hold them accountable.”

In Florida, slot machines are only legal at certain Indian tribal facilities and eight pari-mutuel facilities in Miami-Dade and Broward counties, according to the FGCC. Legal slot machines in the Gulf Coast region are at Seminole Hard Rock Tampa and Seminole Casino Immokalee.
