A Greek eatery that served downtown Sarasota under its original owners for nearly 20 years is reopening in South Sarasota location in the coming months. El Greco Kitchen & Market will be located at 4035 Clark Road in the Expo shopping center near the Sawyer Road intersection. Relatives of the founders of El Greco Cafe are behind the fast-casual concept.
Patti Soublis Corcoran, whose parents George and Paulene Soublis operated El Greco Cafe on Main Street from 1990 to 2007, is partnering with her nephew, Dimitri Syros, to bring back the Greek eatery. Syros co-founded The Breakfast Company and is a minority partner in the Original Hob Nob Drive-In.
El Greco Kitchen & Market will use “my Dad’s original recipes to deliver the same authentic Greek flavors which helped El Greco Cafe become a destination,” Corcoran wrote on Facebook. “Partnering with my nephew Dimitri, whose experience and skill have made The Breakfast Company into a Sarasota favorite, we are putting our modern twists on the best authentic Greek food this town has ever enjoyed.”
Greek staples like souvlaki, gyro platters, Greek salad and avgolemono soup will be on the menu at El Greco Kitchen & Market, along with pitas, bowls, platters and other salads inspired by Mediterranean fare. The market will offer authentic imported Greek ingredients for purchase too.
Renovations are already underway at the new Clark Road location, which is targeting a spring opening.
