David Morrison, AIA founded TWO Architects in November 2022, and has built the practice through a combination of thoughtful problem solving and client collaboration. Boehmer and Morrison met in graduate school at the University of South Florida in 2010 and moved to Sarasota in 2014 to begin their careers at firms that prioritized modern design. The pair’s combined 24 years of experience spans many project types, but TWO Architects has focused their attention on designing new custom homes, large scale residential renovations, and hospitality interiors for clients that are seeking a modern aesthetic and design excellence. TWO Architects’ recently completed hospitality project, Kurō Sushi at Lakewood Ranch Main Street, reflects this ethos. Kurō’s material palette is simple - light wood panels, vertical wood slats, and a gridded box ceiling complemented with thoughtful and layered lighting - creating an intimate dining experience that celebrates the craft behind Japanese cuisine.

TWO Architects’ residential work explores materiality and texture, pushing beyond the ‘flat roof, white stucco box’ now common to our region. Each project varies depending upon the client’s goals, but responding to the Florida climate while seeking efficiency and clarity in design is always present. Acknowledging the amount of sun and alternately, the deluge of rainstorms received annually, themes such as sloped roofs, large overhangs that shade floor-to-ceiling glass, and playing with natural light throughout the day have emerged as constants in their work. Morrison cares deeply about the details of a project coming together with precision, and Boehmer brings her passion of working with existing structures to the practice.
