CareerSource Tampa Bay to close Brandon-area center

CareerSource Tampa Bay will permanently close its Brandon-area career center later this month while the regional workforce agency searches for other ways to serve the community, according to a release.

The center, at 6302 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., will close Aug. 28, the agency says. CareerSource Tampa Bay did not provide a reason for the closure, saying only the transition “was not anticipated.”

“While this transition was not anticipated, it gives us an opportunity to rethink our service model and explore new ways to serve the Brandon community,” President and CEO Keidrian Kunkel says in the release.

The agency says it is evaluating potential locations and possible partnerships that would allow it to share space with other organizations. It did not provide a timeline for establishing another location in the Brandon area.

In the meantime, job seekers and employers can continue receiving workforce services at the agency’s six remaining career centers across Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.

• 2312 Gulf to Bay Blvd. in Clearwater
• 3420 Eighth Ave. S. in St. Petersburg
• 682 E. Klosterman Road in Tarpon Springs

CareerSource Tampa Bay has served as the workforce development board for Hillsborough and Pinellas counties since July 2024. Its board members are appointed by a consortium of elected officials from the two county commissions.

The agency administers workforce programs supported by the U.S. departments of Labor, Health and Human Services and Agriculture, among others. Those programs are backed by approximately $38.7 million in awards, 93% of which are federally funded, according to agency figures last updated in September 2025.
