Chipotle Mexican Grill is coming to Water Street Tampa.

The popular fast casual restaurant chain announced Thursday that it will open a shop in the growing downtown mixed-use district by the end of this year. The eatery will be in a 2,519-square-foot space on the corner of Cumberland Avenue and Via Corazon, a pocket plaza in the development.

Chipotle says it will use outdoor seating within the plaza.

Water Street is the $3 billion, 56-acre, mixed-use development just south of downtown Tampa. The nine million-square foot district includes commercial, residential, hospitality, entertainment and retail space. It has quickly become one of the fastest growing neighborhoods in the city.

Its current restaurant lineup is an eclectic mix that includes the upscale —Boulon Brasserie, Azure at the Edition and Lilac, a Michelin Star modern Mediterranean restaurant — and the standard — 3 Corners Pizza, BurgerFi and Chill Bros. Scoop Shop.

Chipotle says in the statement that it will announce more details in coming weeks.

The chain, as of June 30, has more than 3,800 restaurants in the U.S. and internationally. Of those, 283 are in Florida with about 62 along the Gulf Coast.
