A national wholesale building materials company based in Virginia opened a branch in North Port, south Sarasota County, this week.
Lansing Building Products is leasing 65,000 square feet at North Port Business Park, where it has a showroom to go along with its warehouse.
The Richmond-headquartered company supplies products for contractors ranging from windows to roofing through 114 branches across 35 states.
“This expansion not only strengthens the logistics and distribution industry in our region but also brings 15 new jobs to the City of North Port,” the Economic Development Corp. of Sarasota County says in a statement.
Since opening on Sept. 15, the North Port branch marks the 12th for Lansing Building Products in Florida, says Branch Manager Krystine Kauffman in an email.
“We are still working on our show room,” Kauffman says, noting it is open, as it is the main customer entrance. However, the company is working on installing displays to showcase accents for the home and ways to protect it. “By the end of the year, it should be up and running with all displays.”
At 1122 Panacea Blvd., the North Port facility provides gutters, siding and outdoor living items, according to its website.
The showroom is an important standard for Lansing, Kauffman says, since “we really like to have interactive moments" with customers and vendors. The company conducts “lunch and learns” on installations and new products in the market for its vendor partners, she adds.
Lansing Building Products also has branches in Manatee County and in Fort Myers. Each is about 40 miles from the North Port location.

The North Port branch is located in the North Port Business Park, being built by Benderson Development off Toledo Blade Boulevard near the I-75 exit. Currently the park contains more than 800,000 square feet of industrial and office space and will have 1 million square feet when complete.
A Benderson representative said earlier this year that the goal of the project was to create a product near the interstate to attract “big, national companies.” Lansing Building Materials was one of a few to pre-lease space at its four industrial and office buildings that became available in April; Wharton-Smith Construction Group and World Electric Supply were the other tenants.
