A Tampa call center is laying off a majority of its staff, according to state filings, blaming the cuts on “unforeseen business circumstances.”

Guide to Insure announced in an Aug. 29 letter sent to the Florida Department of Commerce that it will be laying off 76 employees. Companies are required to alert local and state authorities of mass layoffs under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.

“It is anticipated that employment loss will be permanent,” Guide to Insure President Alex Cate says in the letter.

The affected employees work at Guide to Insure’s call center at 4502 Woodland Corporate Blvd. in Tampa’s Carrollwood area. According to the letter, the layoffs include the director of sales, three sales managers, nine in remote sales positions and 63 in sales positions.

According to the letter, employees are not represented by a union and have no bumping rights.

Founded in 2015, Guide to Insure is based in South Jordan, Utah. As of Sept. 3, the company’s website appeared inactive.
