A new carrier has begun service out of the Fort Myers airport. Allegiant Air launched its first flight out of Southwest Florida International Airport on Nov. 13 to Allentown, Pennsylvania, and the airline plans to add two more destinations next week.

To celebrate its new route to Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE), Allegiant is offering one-way fares as low as $47 if purchased by Nov. 15. The new flights will operate up to twice weekly, according to a statement.

“We’re excited to bring our brand of all-nonstop flights to Fort Myers and provide a seamless connection to eastern Pennsylvania," Allegiant Chief Commercial Officer Drew Wells says in a statement. “This expansion reflects our commitment to delivering travel that’s more accessible, affordable and enjoyable.”

In addition to ABE, Allegiant will begin service Nov. 21 to Appleton, Wisconsin, via Appleton International Airport (ATW); and Des Moines, Iowa, via Des Moines International Airport (DSM).

Allegiant, based in Las Vegas, focuses on linking small to medium cities with top vacation destinations.

“We want to extend Allegiant Air a warm welcome from Southwest Florida International Airport,” Lee County Port Authority Executive Director and CEO Steven C. Hennigan says in the statement. “These are new markets for Southwest Florida and we look forward to visitors and our community having more nonstop options when they travel.”

Southwest Florida International Airport serves more than 11 million passengers each year and ranks among the 50 busiest airports in the United States. Through 17 air carriers, RSW provides service to nearly 80 destinations.
