A major food distributor recently marked the grand opening of its newest distribution center, located in Plant City. Sysco Tampa Bay is expected to create 300 jobs in the region.

Sysco provides food for restaurants, health care and educational facilities, lodging establishments and entertainment venues, among other clients that prepare food away from home. It has about 730,000 customers; operates 340 distribution centers in more than 10 countries; and has 76,000 employees, according to a statement.

Sysco Tampa Bay, which opened in late July at 475 Charlie Taylor Road, is the sixth broadline facility for the company in Florida, the statement says. In the Sunshine State, Sysco employs more than 5,000 people. Sysco Tampa Bay will serve a 100-mile area of Florida.

The new facility in Plant City is the ninth site that Sysco — which reports it is undergoing global growth and expansion — has opened in the past year.

Since the beginning of 2024, Sysco’s Greco Italian food specialty company has opened three facilities. And in the last year, the company has also expanded its footprint at four facilities, including in Wisconsin and Scotland.

“Sysco is committed to growing with our customers and our communities and making sure we are there to help them succeed by providing diverse, quality products at good value and superb customer service,” Sysco Chairman and CEO Kevin Hourican says in a statement. ”We are doing this here in Florida, in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, London, Ireland, Sweden and across the globe.”

Houston-headquartered Sysco reported more than $81.4 billion in sales for fiscal year 2025, which ended June 28. It is projecting sales growth of about 3% to 5% to $84 billion to $85 billion in the year ahead.
