Several hospitals from Tampa to Fort Myers were listed among the best hospitals in Florida by U.S. News and World Report, which on July 29 released its 2025-2026 rankings. The publication assessed more than 4,400 hospitals nationwide as part of its research, which included looking at a variety of patient outcome measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates and preventable complications.
Tampa General Hospital was ranked the No. 4 hospital in Florida and was nationally ranked in several categories, including No. 5 for obstetrics and gynecology. It was also among the top 45 in the country for gastroenterology and GI surgery; ear, nose and throat; urology; diabetes and endocrinology; and cardiology, heart and vascular surgery.
Sarasota Memorial Hospital was ranked No. 8 in Florida and was No. 46 in the country for obstetrics and gynecology.
These are the best hospitals in Florida, according to U.S. News and World Report:

2. Mayo Clinic-Florida
3. UF Shands Hospital
4. Tampa General Hospital
5. Orlando Health- Orlando Regional Medical Center
6. Cleveland Clinic Weston
7. Baptist Health Baptist Hospital
8. Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville
8. Sarasota Memorial Hospital
10. Mount Sinai Medical Center
The publication’s list of top Florida hospitals, which went up to No. 37, also included Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers (No. 12), Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater (No. 14), NCH Baker Hospital in Naples (No. 16), AdventHealth in Tampa (tied for No. 16), Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers (No. 18), St. Joseph's Hospital-Tampa (tied for No. 18) and Brandon Regional Hospital (No. 25).
U.S. News and World Report also ranked the best regional hospitals in various metropolitan areas.
“These local hospital rankings, entirely performance-driven, equip individuals and their families, in consultation with their medical providers, to choose the highest quality care available in their own communities,” Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News, says in a statement.
In the Cape Coral metro area, Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers was ranked No. 1, followed by Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers at No. 2.
In the Sarasota–Bradenton metro area, Sarasota Memorial Hospital was ranked No. 1.

In Tampa-St. Petersburg, Tampa General Hospital was ranked No. 1, followed by Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, AdventHealth Tampa, St. Joseph’s Hospital-Tampa, Brandon Regional Hospital, HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital and AdventHealth Zephyrhills.
“As a result of the transformative work of our team members and providers, powered by our strong academic partnership with the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, Tampa General is ranked the #1 hospital in the Tampa Bay region for the 10th year in a row,” President and CEO of Tampa General John Couris says in a statement. “As our region’s only academic health system, we are incredibly proud to provide compassionate, innovative, high-quality and highly complex care to millions of people every year and across an ever-growing network of seven hospitals and more than 150 care locations statewide.”
This marks the 36th year for the annual U.S. News best hospitals study.
