A Venice-based trucking and logistics company is expanding and adding 50 news jobs in the process.
The expansion at D-Trans LLC is expected to be completed this fall. The family-owned company provides premium transportation and logistics services across the country and Canada. It was established in 2005 as a logistics brokerage firm.
The company is currently located at 230 Blue Juniper Blvd. in Venice, with 7,000 square feet of office and warehouse space, which will continue to be occupied by the company through the expansion. The new three-story headquarters with a warehouse facility will add 27,000 square feet of space to the company’s facilities.
Josh Ewen, vice president of economic development services at the Economic Development Corp. of Sarasota County, says the EDC reached out to D-Trans LLC in 2021 during a business retention visit. From there, the EDC helped D-Trans navigate the application processes of incentives provided by the county. Since then, the EDC has met with them 15 times.
“We want to make sure we’re a resource for them,” Ewen says.
Not everything has been smooth sailing with the project, Ewen notes. When Hurricane Ian hit last year, the project was in its second month of construction. The hurricane damaged structural components, pushing the project back. Now, the project is expected to be completed this fall.
D-Trans was co-founded by Vladimir Durshpek.
Ewen says the EDC "will work with our resource partners throughout the county in trying to help fill those 50 potential jobs. We’ll also help raise awareness about his company. We want to be able to tell existing businesses that we, as an entire county, are open for business and they should expand their footprint here.
“To show there is private investment being made by this family-owned business is a great asset and we’d like to tell other businesses that they should also locate here.”
